IDENTIFICATION AND DRAFT GENOME OF DEHALOOOCCOIDES SP. STRAIN ATV1 THAT HAS REDUCTIVE DEHALOGENASES FOR TRICHLOROETHENE AND VINYL CHLORIDE, AND CAN DECHLORINATE TRICHLOROETHENE TO ETHENE
We have developed and characterized a bacterial consortium that reductively dechlorinates cis-1, 2-dichloroethene (cDCE), and vinyl chloride (VC) to ethene. The groundwater contaminated with trichloroethene (TCE) was used as the source of bacteria. After several rounds of successive subcultures, we obtained a consortium that can dechlorinate 100 μM of cDCE to ethene in about 20 days. Real time PCR analysis for 16S rRNA gene has shown that the consortium was highly enriched with Dehalococcoid.es species. To characterize the Dehalococcoid.es strain and also other bacteria constituting the consortium, the total genome of the consortium was applied for genome analysis by the next generation sequencer, SOLiD 3. The genome sequence of the Dehalococcoid.es strain was highly homologous to that of
