DIFFERENTIAL HUMORAL RESPONSE OF GENOTYPE IB HEPATITIS C VIRUS F PROTEIN BETWEEN CHRONIC AND RECOVERED INFECTIONS
This study is to investigate the differential humoral response of anti-F antibodies between chronic and recovered infections. Genotype 1b HCV F protein was used as coated antigen to assess the prevalence and the antibody titer of anti-F in plasma from 42 chronic HCV patients, 19 recovered individuals from HCV infection, and 10 healthy volunteers. The anti-F humoral response in 25 samples showed a significantly higher reactivity in chronic than that in recovered HCV infections. Anti-F antibody titers were also significantly higher in chronic patients than that in recovered individuals. There are no significant differences of anti-F antibody titers between recovered patients and healthy volunteers. The different response of genotype 1b HCV F protein between chronic patients and recovered individuals, and the cross-reactivity irrespective of genotype 1b HCV F protein demonstrated that the F protein might play an important role in the pathogenesis of natural HCV infection.
