INTERACTION STUDIES OF 6-ALKYLAMINO SUBSTITUTED NAPHTHALIMIDES AND DNA

The DNA-binding behavior of eight 6-alkylamino substituted naphthalimides was investigated by spectra and viscosity measurement. The significant fluorescence quenching of 3a-3d having stronger DNAbinding efficiency was observed upon addition of DNA, while the significant fluorescence enhancement of 3e3h having weaker DNA-binding efficiency was seen. This phenomena suggested that there is difference in electron and energy transfer induced by the different binding ability of the derivatives toward DNA. CD (circular dichroism) results indicated that the change in the second DNA structure induced by the derivatives was different, due to the difference in the interaction of the derivatives and DNA. In UV-vis and viscosity measument, no obvious difference in the interaction of the derivatives and DNA was found. Taking the spectra and viscosity measurement results, it would was concluded that the naphthalimide derivatives bound to DNA via intercalation, however there is difference in the manner and degree.
