NEW SPECIFIC EST-SSR MARKERS FOR TARGETING SECALE AFRICANUM CHROMOSOMES 2RA
Rye (Secale cereale L. ) chromosome 2R possesses many useful genes which can be used for wheat improvement Individual chromosomes 2Ra of Secale a fricanum were introduced to cultivated wheat background in our previous work. However, approaches needed to be conducted for detecting the transmission of S. africanum chromatin. In this study, we developed five new EST-SSR markers for S. africanum chromosome 2Ra and specifically located them on the short arms of 2Ra(2Ra S). Of the five selected markers, three markers can produce polymorphic amplification among different Secale species. The newly established markers can track the transmission of S. africanum chromosomes 2Ra S fragments in F2 progenies. These markers can also be used to saturate the rye chromosome 2R genetic map and trace S. africanum chromosomes 2Ra small introgression fragments with agronomically important genes to wheat background.
