CYTOTOXIC INTERATIVE EFFECTS OF CONSTITUENTS FROM RHIZOMA COPTIS
Generally, alkaloids, especially berberine(ber), were considered as the main toxic compounds in Rhizoma Coptis(RC). Little attention were paid to investigate the toxicity interactive effect of constituents in RC. The present study was designed to conduct cytotoxic interactive effects of compounds in HepG2 cells. Palmatine(1), coptisine(2), epiberberine (3), jatrorrhizine(4), and ferulic acid(5), which occupied high percentage in RC, were used to investigate the interaction with berberine. The quantitative analysis of compounds 1-5 and berberine were perform by HPLCDAD. The combination of alkaloids matching the original percentage (cas) and the combination of acid-alkaline pair medicine consisting of ferulic acid and berberine matching the original percentage (cfb) showed obvious attenuated effect, compared to same dose of berberine, respectively. The result suggested the combination of constituents was beneficial to attenuating the toxicity of RC.
