From Traditional Cave to Green Design of Modern Earth-Sheltered Architecture: A Case Study of Chongqing Empirical Study Center of Building Energy Conservation

The earth-sheltered architecture has a long history and many advantages such as warm winter and cool summer;optimal land utilization;protecting the environment and low-cost maintenance, etc. Meanwhile, the earth-sheltered architecture as the modern cave dwelling has many problems needed to be solved. This paper takes the Chongqing Empirical Study Center of Building Energy Conservation for instance, analyzes the characteristics of the environmental protection and energy conservation, and the effects of natural lighting and ventilation are also simulated by computer. From these simulations, we can get the date of natural lighting and ventilation, which can be used to guide the design process and thus the weakness of earth-sheltered architecture can be solved by using the above means.
