Hemostatic agents and Microporous Polysaccharide Hemispheres (MPH) for surgery
Introduction In surgery, we have to control bleeding. Bleeding is usually controlled by ligation with sutures or by electrocoagulation with electrical scalpel. We also sometimes use hemostatic agents to control oozy bleeding (from small veins). Among many hemostatic agents for surgery, Microporous Polysaccharide Hemispheres (MPH) has been recognized as a novel absorbable hemostatic powder recently. MPH has come to be available as Arista (TM) AH. Here, we show our experience in using the MPH for kidney surgery.
