ZnRh204 as a Hydrogen Production Photocatalyst Sensitive to Visible Light
Since the first report of water splitting using TiO2 and Pt electrodes under UV light irradiation 1. many studieshave been performed to develop novel semiconductor photocatalysts that can split water into H2 and 02 in stoichiometric amounts (overall water splitting) under visible light irradiation in order to utilize incoming solar energy effectively. So far. only ZnO-GaN solid solution initiated by one-step photoexcitation has been regarded as the visible-light sensitive overall water splitting photocatalyst 2. In contrast, numerous photocatalysts have been identified that can produce either H2 or 02 under visible light in the presence of sacrificial agents, designated H2-or 02-photocatalyst. respectively. Combined systems with these photocatalysts can become visible-light sensitive photocatalysts for overall water splitting in the presence of a suitable redox couple. Such two-step photoexcitation systems are termed Z-scheme 3-4.
