Over-view of commercial potential of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) in the USA

Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) are potential alternatives to chemicals in plant disease management and yield enhancement of many agricultural crops which is an emerging concept worldwide. In the United States, the concept is gaining popularity and has wide applicability in field crops and vegetables. This paper focuses on the commercial availability of different categories of bioinoculants and the companies produced in the USA. The formulation types, delivery of the products, target host and pathogen will be reviewed. The current trends in PGPR research in the United States on important diseases of cereals (Sheath blight of rice) and vegetables (Bacterial leaf spots of pepper, tomato and cucumber) are discussed.
