Studies on pre-harvest aflatoxin contamination in peanut and its integrated management using host plant resistance

Groundnut is an important oil seed crop of Asia earning lot of revenue. Among biotic stresses in groundnut, aflatoxin contamination is a major problem showing significant impact on trade. Aflatoxins are carcinogenic, teratogenic and hepatotoxic metabolites secreted by A. flavus and A. parasiticus. The present study focuses on characterization of aflatoxin resistant cultivars of groundnut and its integrated management through use of host plant resistance. The objectives include i) Screening of various groundnut genotypes for their resistance to aflatoxin contamination, and ii) Integrated management of aflatoxin problem under greenhouse and field conditions.
