Reliability Determination of a Sounding Rocket Separation System Using Monte Carlo Simulation

In this paper, reliability of a separation system of a sounding rocket is examined. This system is based on the flexible linear shape charge cross-section system and a spring system to accelerate separation. In this investigation, dynamic performance of the spring system is studied and the payload derivation parameters, such as, relative velocity between payload and motor, payload acceleration and payload angular velocity are determined. Statistical equation for determination of mean value and standard deviation of system parameters are extracted according to regular dynamic equations. These relationships are very complex. Therefore, this subject is solved using Monte Carlo simulation. In the present work, the sensitivity of the output parameters to input parameters is studied. Finally, reliability of output parameters, based on, 1, 2 and three sigma analysis is determined using Monte Carlo simulation. Results shown, relative velocity between payload and motor is very sensitive to springs’ displacement. Furthermore, payload acceleration and angular velocity are very sensitive to the payload mass. According to simulation results and also changes the domain of input parameters, payload acceleration has the highest reliability and payload angular velocity has the lowest reliability.
