A Terrain Following Navigation Algorithm Using Terrain Elevation Data (Generation of a Reference Trajectory for Terrain Following Maneuver Using Stored Terrain Elevation Data)
Terrain following maneuver is an important feature for missions that involve silent penetration requirement. This paper presents an efficient algorithm that generates reference trajectory for terrain following maneuver. The reference trajectory is designed to meet the limit on climbing performance imposed by limited thrust. Another limiting element is the load factor. Morphology and averaging filter are used to generate the trajectory successfully. For all the test cases tried, the results satisfied the limiting factors and proved the functionality.
