Static and Dynamic Characteristics of a Flow Regulator for the Thrust Control of a Liquid Rocket Engine
This article presents a study on static and dynamic characteristics of a flow regulator, which was developed for the thrust control of an LRE. The flow regulator can modulate the flow rate of liquid oxygen with the help of an electro-mechanical actuator driven by a BLDC motor. The mathematical models of the flow regulator including a controller and a thrust control simulator have been developed. The dynamic characteristics predicted by the mathematical models showed good agreement with experimental results thus proving the validity of the models. It was also found that an optimum control algorithm for a thrust control simulator is a simple On-Off control.
