Study on Aircraft Configuration Automation and its Application as a Pre-processor for CFD Analysis of Aircraft Aerodynamics

In this paper our research effort to develop an interactive program which enables an efficient and fast generation of aircraft configurations is described. The users of the program can easily generate aircraft configuration in an interactive fashion, and the output of our program can be used as input data of CATIA system, which is one of widely-used CAD systems in the aircraft industries and research institutes. The program defines aircraft shapes by using design parameters by which generation and modification of external configuration of aircrafts can be done easily and efficiently. This paper explains how the program is constructed and how users can operate it to generate aircraft configurations. It is demonstrated that aircrafts including commercial airliners and MUAV(Military Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) are generated with ease by using the current program. In this presentation it is also explained how the results of current program can be used to proceed to perform aerodynamic analysis of external flow about full aircraft by using CFD technique.
