Shape Estimation Approach for the General Structure based on the Strain data
This study investigates the strain based shape estimation approach for the purpose of three dimensional deformation measurements of the general shaped structures during the operation. A displacement-strain relation on the basis of a modal approach is revised to be applied on the general shaped structures with finite-element method. The optimization process of the sensor placements is proposed based on the observability grammian. The proposed shape estimation approach as well as the optimization process is validated by the numerical simulations of beam deformation. As an example of a general shaped structure, the shape estimation approach is performed for the wind turbine blade model. The results show good agreement demonstrating the potentials of the proposed shape estimation approach for the general shaped structures.
