Impacts to protection system of distribution network when wind farms connected

In order to research the influence of Grid-connected with wind farm to protection in distribution system, in this article a simulation model of Grid-connected with a 3 MW wind farm is constructed. Three-phase short circuit faults at the point in the transmission line and at the access point of the wind farm are simulated. In both shortcircuit case weather the wind farm exist or not the differences is analyzed. Simulation results show that in order to ensure the stable operation of the system, the wind farms impact to the system can not be ignored. Finally, an new method of protection is proposed, the grid which connect with wind farms is divided into several areas, the protection device cut the fault zone in time, while other regions will not be affected.
