A DEA Approach to Evaluating the Eco-Efficiency of National R&D Projects An Analysis of Koreas New Green Technologies
As the awareness of environmental issues is substantially encouraged in global economies, an organic relationship between environmental and economic impacts becomes a hot issue. In this respect, this paper aims to evaluate this relationship in terms of the eco-efficiency using the data envelopment analysis (DEA). The concept of ecoefficiency embraces performance of both economic and environmental effects. The eco-efficiency is defined as the ratio of economic values of products or services to environmental impacts of them. The DEA is a useful tool for measuring the eco-efficiency with multiple environmental inputs and economic outputs. It also tries to provide information on how to improve eco-inefficient factors. The paper focuses on a case study for evaluating the eco-efficiency of Korean 27 green technologies. To do this, we suggest the research methodology with environmental inputs and economic outputs available.
