Sharing of Mechanical Design Knowledge by Using Ontology

In this paper, we propose an ontology for the field of mechanical design that enable the sharing of mechanical design knowledge. In the process of ontology construction, meta-concepts in mechanical design field are extracted, relationships between the concepts are then defined, and finally knowledge is integrated based on the experience and inference of the designer. On top of that, the relationship between design concepts and the inference are described by OWL(Web Ontology Language) and stored into database. By doing this, the transferring and sharing of design information, and the pursuit of design solution can be made possible.
