Vehicular ad hoc Networks Improving the Performance of Route Guidance System

In this paper, we propose a Route Guidence System (RGS) in Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) scenario based on Vehicular ad hoc Networks (VANETs). According to the proposed RGS, the driver can query the VANET and get the real-time optimal routing to reduce the travel time and relieve the traffic congest. In the RGS, we identify two different types of nodes in the VANET: mobile sensor nodes (I.e. The nodes set in taxies) and sink nodes (I.e. Nodes deployed on roadside); the mobile sensor nodes are assumed to be equipped with a satellite receiver like GPS for collecting some information like position, direction and speed, the sink nodes have large transmission range in order to cover the road as much as possible. In this paper, both of the two kinds of nodes are assumed that they have enough energy, so we mainly care for the performance of RGS including correctness of optimal routing and delay time of RGS. In order to reach that, we make use of the mobile sensor nodes to get the real-time information and the roadside devices to compute the local real-time travel time. The performance of the RGS including correctness and delay time can be improved.
