Development of a GPRS-Based Environment Monitoring System for Tobacco Production
This paper mainly presented a research in which a GPRS-based environment monitoring system (GEMS) was developed. This system is applied to collect the data of temperature, humidity, rainfall, and global radiation and UV radiation for the purpose of tobacco production. The data collected is dynamically transmitted to a web server through GPRS service. For data security, all the data are replicated and stored in a SD card in the system. The GEMS were deployed into 30 different main tobacco production areas in 6 provinces (Yunnan, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Hunan, Henan, and Liaoning) for constructing a tobacco environment monitoring network in country level. Via two-year test, the research showed that the GEMS is available to the construction of a tobacco environment monitoring network for large-scale tobacco production.
