Concurrent Engineering in Construction: Organizational Structure Reform
As a kind of systematic method, the idea of Concurrent Engineering (CE) firstly came from America during the world war II. By considering all factors of product lifecycle from conception coining into being to scrap disposal, it is able to accelerate new product development, advance product quality, reduce cost and offer high grade service. At present, with CE being introduced into construction industry, we urgently demands new management principle and new management pattern to make it adopt the environment. In this paper, firstly the conception and outline of CE are introduced, then it is argued that the need and feasibility of implementing CE in construction industry. On the base, by analyzing and investigating the development process and actuality of the construction organization mode, the appropriate organizational structure form of construction project is established, and all of those research results can ensure the theory of CE be furthermore widely applied to the construction project.
