Subjective Evaluation Model of Physical Factors in Trains Ride Comfort: a Pilot Study

The current ride comfort evaluation methods of trains are different and outdated. This study presents a model to evaluate subjective comfort depending on 6 physical influence factors of ride comfort. Based on NASA-TLX, a train ride comfort index (TRCX) was developed and used to collect data from 55 participants. Weight of each factors and comfort scores were calculated by multi-dimensional overall comfort algorithm. Overall comfort were classified and compared according to genders, professions and carriage levels of participants. Experimental results show that reliability and validity of the TRCX was acceptable, ensuring effective input variables of the model. In accord with actual ride situation, computing results of overall comfort verified the feasibility of the model. This study may pave the way for further integrating comfort evaluation index system of high-speed trains.
