Using Integrated Quality Function Deployment and Ergonomics Approach for Product Design
Quality Function Deployment(QFD) is an effective design method to increase customer satisfaction and reduce development cycle time in product design. But traditional QFD is hard to interpret voice of customer and define engineering characteristics and work with large matrices, which are not beneficial to assess the design priority accurately. Integrating ergonomics into QFD can help interpret customer needs and define design attributes. The paper first proposed a conceptual model for ergonomic product design. A modified HoQ chart was developed for integrating ergonomics into QFD to assess the design priority. Finally, to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed design approach, a case study was conducted on the hand tool design of hooked needle.
