The Most Beautiful Currency in the World Design symbols analysis of flower-and-bird version dutch guilders
Flower- and Bird version Dutch guilders are known as most beautiful currency in the world, successfully conveying the distinctive national image and regional culture with abstract, distinct and clear visual language and precise national symbols. With the aid of semiotic research methods, this paper makes analysis of signifiers of Dutch guilders graphic design, including shape, color, style, and other elements, discussing symbolic meaning of the signified behind formal elements, and exploring the corresponding national cultural connotation. Meanwhile, the aim is to look for the causal relationship between phenomenon and the essence as well as designers’ thinking method in the design process. Through currency, a form of the national design symbols, the author has a restrict view towards semiotic thinking methods in Dutch designs.
