Temperature field measurement of sand mold during the casting process of a flat plate by thermal infrared system
The cooling of castings is of great importance for the prediction of solidification process and the soundness of castings. However, the measurement of the cooling of castings limited to the internal quality of casting, the endurability of thermal couples and number of measurement points. The measurement of mold temperature variation is also limited to the number of measurement points. In this paper, the temperature distribution of the mold is measured by infrared thermal imaging system during the whole casting process. From obtained thermal images, the mold temperature distribution during the casting process is acquired. From the temperature distribution, the filling process, heat transfer between casting and mold during casting process can be deduced. The measured results are used for validation of numerical simulation. A case study, a vertically filled plate, is given.
