Effects of Ag and riser system on the porosity content in A201 aluminum alloy plate castings
The different contents Ag (0.50 wt.%, 0.75 wt.%, and 1.00 wt.%) of A201 aluminum alloy plate castings with systematic change of riser size, together with variation of thickness and length, were cast in silicate sand molds to investigate their relations to porosity content. The experimental results indicate that the porosity content in a long solidification range A201 aluminum alloy plate casting is governed not only by the riser size but also by the plate geometry and the content of Ag. Insufficient feeding of the castings and too much Ag may increase porosity content.
