Influence of installed position of side dam on temperature and stress field in twin-roll strip casting

This paper presents the twin-roll strip casting technology, and describes the importance of side dam for the twin-roll strip casting technology. The analysis was focused on the influence of different installed location of side dam on the temperature field and the stress field. The numerical calculation and data processing show that the best installed location is at 13 mm under the casting match point. This not only blocks the molten steel, but also guarantees the side dam bearing the minimum stress, which is benefit for extending the life of the side dam, thereby increasing productivity and reducing production cost.
