Effect of ultrasonic treatment on graphite morphology of grey cast iron
The transient ultrasonic treatment (UST) can cause the graphite structure changes of grey cast iron from typical A type flake graphite to the tip round graphite which is slightly rough, and mixed morphology with near-spheroidal and curling fine thread-like shape. The ultrasonic can effectively refine the eutectic cells structure and improve the mechanical properties of grey cast iron. The results of SEM indicate that the ultrasonic can improve the wettability between graphite and metal matrix and enhance the affinity, and the fracture change from graphite delamination to graphite cleavage. So the ultrasonic can effectively control the changes of graphite morphology of the solidified structure of grey cast iron and is an effective method of improving grey iron properties.
