Strengthening characteristics of samples produced by selective laser sintering with pearl coated sand

Series of 8 specimens were made of pearl coated sand by selective laser sintering (SLS). Then, the specimens were strengthened by using post-curing process with different packing materials and heating temperatures. Finally, the tensile strength and the gas evolution at 1, 000°C were measured. The fractures were observed by means of SEM. Packing glass bead and heating at 200°C is the best post-curing process, which can make the tensile strength up to 6.28 MPa and the gas evolution up to 18.43 mL/g, meeting the requirement of molds and cores well. The curing characteristics were investigated.
