DEVELOPMENT OF AN INTEGRATED INFORMATION SYSTEM BASED ON HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Objective: We developed an integrated information system by connecting the health information technology (HIT) systems that were operated independently of each other. Methods: The information exchange between the HIT systems was performed by using an API (Application Programming Interface) to connect to a database management system, the ontology language of OWL (Web Ontology Language) to share the mapping information between medical terms, and the HL7 messages to make the information systems interoperable. Results: We realized an integrated environment for HIT systems using the proposed methods and confirmed that the HIT systems assessed here were interoperable in the integrated environment through a laboratorylevel test. Conclusion: The integrated information system and the HIT systems will be upgraded continuously via feedback from evaluations in the medical field instead of results from laboratory-level tests.
