The Application of Edge Technique in Wind Lidar

The principle of single-edge technique and double-edge technique in the application of wind lidar was analyzed in detail, and the sensitivity and error of velocity measurement were discussed contrastively. The principle of single-edge technique is to compare the transmission of high resolution filter in two different frequencies. Double-edge technique lies in deducing Doppler shift as well as wind velocity value by comparing the intensity difference between two filters’ output signal. And Mie and Rayleigh backscattering signals can be measured separately via selecting special working point. The analysis indicates that the velocity measurement sensitivity of double-edge technique is twice as much as that of single-edge technique in the same measurement condition. Although signal beam splitting of double-edge technique impacts SNR (signal-to-noise ratio), the velocity measurement error is still higher than that of single-edge technique.
