APPLICATION OF WATER PINCH TECHNOLOGY FOR WATER MINIMIZATION IN TITANIUM PIGMENT INDUSTRY
Titanium pigment is one of the major effluent generating industries in China. In most cases, titanium effluent (treated or raw) is discharged back into a river or other water body, resulting in negative environmental impacts, as well as social concerns. This paper presents an effort aimed at minimizing the freshwater and the waste water in titanium pigment plant.A systematic water networks design using water pinch analysis (WPA) was developed to minimize the water usage for the plant.Fe2+ was chosen as the main parameter. The overall result of this study shows that WPA has been effectively applied using reuse strategies for the titanium pigment plant, and reduced the freshwater consumption by 39.45%.The water pinch analysis method is effective in water saving.
