IMPROVEMENT OF RIDE AND HANDLING PERFORMANCE APPLYING CONTROLLED FUZZY LOGIC FOR AN INTEGRATED SUSPENSION SYSTEM OF ACTIVE AND SEMI-ACTIVE
This paper describes the suspension non-linear control of a five-degree of freedom (5DOF) half model of a vehicle consisting of a passenger seat resulting in the improvement of both handling and ride simultaneously.The system is controlled through 3 controllers of Fuzzy Logic Control and is simulated by MATLAB/SIMULFNK.Furthermore, MATLABSIMMECHANICS has been applied to write the control rules and to boost the comprehension of system behavior due to the lack of experimental facilities to validate.The designed Fuzzy Logic Controller of active suspension system for vehicle wheels consists of 2 inputs: 1) the sprung mass velocity 2) the sprung mass acceleration and the output is the actuator force.In addition, for the passenger seat, the controller of Fuzzy Logic, which is utilized with Semi-active controllers, comprises of two inputs: 1) seat velocity 2) the difference between the seat mass velocity and sprung mass velocity, and its output is the varying damping coefficient.A variety of road inputs including Step, Random, Impulse, and Bandlimited white noise have been designated for analysis.Aforementioned inputs have been applied in both passive and controlled system so that the results can be evaluated and compared thoroughly.The simulation results signify considerable improvements in increasing of both handling and ride performances in a system enhanced with controllers in comparison to a passive system.
