A Fuzzy Logic Vertical Handoff Algorithm with Motion Trend Decision

With the development of heterogeneous wireless network, mobility management is one of the key issues, and handoff management is one of the most important issues in mobility management. Aiming at vertical handoff here presents a fuzzy logic based on motion trend of vertical handoff algorithm. The algorithm is divided into pre-determined, fuz/y logic control and handoff decision process. In the predetermined procedure, according to the motion trends of MN and the received signal strength of WLAN to filter out the information which are not appropriate, and reduce the amount of unnecessary data and system overheads. Then, put the RSS, network available bandwidth and the cost into the fuzzy logic controller, get the value of the final comprehensive performance of the network (VCPN) by normalizing, and finally making the decision according to VCPN and the dwell time. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can make the handover decision effectively, eliminate of ping-pong effects and improve the network switch performance.
