Scheduling Coordinated Trucks at Zero-Inventory Cross-Docking Terminal

In the food industry, cool chain is closely related with a set of technologies to ensure the safety and quality of fresh foods against decay. When the foods are transferred through a cross-docking terminal, the goods cannot be kept in the storage area for a long time. The unloaded units must be transferred to the outbound trucks with refrigerators. This type of cross-docking terminal is called zero-inventory cross-docking terminal. Therefore, when the outbound truck with specific target customers waits in the outbound door, the trucks with required goods must be arranged in the inbound doors for unloading. Therefore, it is important to synchronize inbound and outbound trucks. The truck scheduling problem of zero-inventory cross-docking terminal has been studied in literature. However, previous models with strong presumptions are usually solved with dynamic programming. In this study, the problem is modeled as an integer programming model where presumptions are reduced to cater for practical applications and can be solved easily with commercial operational research packages.
