Study on the Effects of ION in the Viscosity of Hpam Polymer Solution

There are various iron in oilfield produced water. The effect of ion on the rheological characteristics of HPAM solution was researched and determined. Cations are the main reason of HPAM solution viscosity loss. The effects of cation concentrations, charge numbers and cation radii on HPAM molecular configuration are deeply explored and discussed by applying the mechanism of electrical double layer. The influencing rule of cations on HAPM molecular configuration was obtained. Anions have contribution to the reduction of HPAM solution viscosity too. Especially the sulfide that effect on HPAM solution viscosity was studied using process of recover HPAM solution viscosity through graduately reducing sulfide concentration by the addition of hydrogen peroxide oxidation and measured by BROOKFIELD DV-II viscometer. The experimental results show that there is a critical concentration of 15 mg/L. Below it, the loss rate of HPAM solution viscosity increases more rapidly, inversely becomes slowly. This work provides a guidance for oilfields to prepare polymer solution and select or produce proper emulsifier.
