Exploring the Relationship between Effective Coaching Leadership, Group Cohesion, on the College Basketball Teams in Taiwan.
The main purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of effective coaching leadership on group cohesion, for male and female basketball players in selected college basketball teams in Taiwan. Questionnaires were distributed to five hundred and ten (N=510) individuals, who are involved in private and public colleges. The sample was obtained by randomly selecting fifteen (N=15) players from each team out of thirty- four (N=34) basketball teams. Two major survey instruments were used in this study to obtain the requisite information: Leadership Behavior for Sports (Chelladurai & Saleh, 1980), the Group Environment Questionnaire for Group Cohesion (Carrron, Widmeyer, & Brawley, 1985), The results of this study indicate that a significant causal relationship existsed between coaching leadership and team cohesion.
