Eleven antenna loaded with lumped elements for square kilometer array application
The return loss of tradition eleven antennas is large and the reflected energy will effect circular polarization characteristics. In this paper, an eleven antenna loaded with lumped resistances of 470 £2 is presented for square kilometer array (SKA) radio telescope application. The eleven antenna is a traveling wave antenna and the lumped resistance is loaded to absorb the reflected energy. The proposed eleven antenna has a bandwidth from 0.4 GHz to 2 GHz for VSWR < 2.1: 1. The 10 dB main beam is about 102°. Compared with tradition eleven antennas, only about 5% efficiency is reduced. A experimental model is fabricated to validate the analytical results. Obtained experimental results are in good agreement with numerical data.
