Study Of A Ring Monopole UWB Antenna With Band Notched Characteristic

A compact planar ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with band notched characteristics is presented. Modification in the shape of ground plane with symmetrical bevel slots in the middle of it makes the antenna different from the printed circular-ring monopole antenna. The slot improved the input impedance bandwidth and the high frequency radiation characteristics. Frequency-notched characteristic is also designed and good out of band performance from 5.0-6.0 GHz can be achieved by introducing a microstrip feeder with a tuning stub. Measured results confirm that the antenna is suitable for UWB applications due to its compact size and high performance. Transfer functions of the antenna systems are given experimentally.
