Rediscovery of Perceivers Interaction with Space-the Case of Persian Garden
Humans are an integral part of environment. Theories and models of human-environment relationships suggest that human perception is essential to understand the interlocking relationship between humans and environment. This is evident in any environment particularly in gardens and landscapes. In traditional environment and architecture when any redundant paradigms are not attended in their creation, these relationships were very prominent in their creation. Moreover, Influence of presence in the traditional environments on the whole self and its durability during the era indicates the consideration to the human and his feelings in laying it out_ The feelings which are the ultimate effects of space in making memorability, contentment, and pleasure in the observers. This memorability happens not only by experiencing the physical setting but also through the way it communicates with the observer who perceives the space through his own multiple perceptual layers (levels) in an inevitable interaction with the environment. In this paper, by probing a man-made environment and understanding our perception of it and also by understanding the knowledge that this environment built on it, the idea of interaction between environment and human is redefined. In this regard, Persian garden is analyzed through the epistemological approach, set in its historical context, to probe human understanding of space. Ultimately, it provides a model of the multi-layer perception of environment which helps us to make effective use of these qualities in creating today spaces. It also, constructs a new interpretive context that enables an architectural and environmental reading of mystical ideas.
