Understanding Keyword Queries for XML Retrieval
Providing structural information for keyword queries in XML retrieval can greatly improve the retrieval performance. In this paper, we propose a new approach to automatically infer structural information for keyword queries (i.e. target and condition node types for the keywords) to data-centric XML retrieval. Compared with the existing inferring methods, we exploit both schematic and statistical information about XML documents, and we take into account the importance of occurrence contexts of keywords as well as the interrelationships between the XML nodes. We implemented the proposed approach in an XML keyword search system, called XNodeRelation, and extensive experiments show the effectiveness of our approach.
