Using PCA to Assess the Critical Success Factor Constructs of SMEs in the Malaysian Food Industry
This paper identifies the elements that are required for quality management practices as well as challenging the competitiveness of the market in order to be successful in achieving excellent performance. Based on a review of various literature on quality management and expert opinions, eight constructs of the quality management critical success factor has been identified. A detailed instrument has been developed comprising 61 items/questions for the eight constructs of quality management practices with additional questions on the organizational performance. This paper also presents the exploratory factor analysis using principal component analysis in exploring the CSFs items but however, the result indicates that five of the items are not interpretable and therefore to be excluded in further analysis. The PCA results show that most variances are for quality assurances and therefore the CSFs elements are very significant for the SMEs in the Malaysian food industry. Finally, the CFA will substantiate the constructs as explored by EFA.
