The Impact of Accession to the EU on Bulgarias Export Specialization
This paper has three key aims: firstly, to examine the changes that have taken place in Bulgarias export specialization since it joined the EU in 2007; secondly, to compare the changes in Bulgarias export specialization with that of several other new EU member states; and thirdly, to make a prognosis of the expected development of Bulgarias export specialization in the forthcoming years. The methods used include calculating the index of export specialization of the EU, Bulgaria, Romania as well as Hungary and the Slovak Republic. These indexes were compared and the dynamics of differences by export sectors and exports as a whole was identified. The conclusion based on the results of the analysis is that a further approximation of Bulgarias export specialization to that of the EU is expected.
