Developing the Large-Scale Optimization Model for Delivery Scheduling Assignment Problem: The Case Study of AAA Company
The delivery planning and scheduling is one of the most important activities that directly impacts the organizational performance in term of cost and service level. Currently, the service level of the case study company is below standard because it hasnt had the appropriate delivery schedule. In addition, the labor cost is also high due to the excessive overtime. In this study, the distribution operation of the case study company was analyzed and the linear programming model was developed to determine the new delivery schedule. The information related to the customers demands, the transportation time, the time for traveling between customer, and the time for loading and unloading the products were collected in order to develop the delivery schedule. The customer delivery frequency was first determined based on their weekly demand. The customer with the large demands will visited more frequently. Then the linear programming was developed in order to assign the delivery schedule to each salesman with objective of minimizing the total labor cost while being able to guarantee that all customers are visited by the salesman in the specified day. The results from applying the proposed model to determine the new delivery schedule indicate the labor cost reduction and the customer service level improvement.
