Impact of GMP principles on Total factor productivity improvement in pharmaceutical industry (Case study: Kimiafaam pharmaceutical group in IRAN)

Productivity in pharmaceutical industries as well as other industries is one of the most important & vital objects which will be necessary for perpetuity of that company. Internal & external factors are two kinds of factors affecting productivity, and using the available techniques for improving them may improve organizations total factor productivity. In order the fact that preferment of internal factor could be easier and more accessible for companies, in this article, well focus on these factors including People, Organization & System, Work methods, Management Style, Product, plant and equipment, Technology, and Materials & energy. The aim of this paper is to scrutiny the effect of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) principles as a part of quality assurance system, on increments of total productivity factor. On this basis a questionnaire was provided to gather the experts viewpoint in this subject. The selected experts are working in one of the biggest veterinary pharmaceutical company in Iran and the correlated regular auditors who were asked to answer the questionnaire. Results shows that despite of the high cost paid in compliance of GMP principles, this principle could positively affect on both soft & hard internal productivity factors (except Technology) and pharmaceutical companies can use this management technical tool for better productivity and better competition in this market.
