The Nodes Activeness Based Routing Metric in Mobile Ad-hoc Network
A Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is a collection of mobile nodes spontaneously forming a temporary wireless network without using any fixed infrastructure. There are two major factors impacting MANETs performance: the mobile nodes limited resources and the mobile nodes random movement in the network. This paper focuses on studying the impact of the nodes random movement. When a node moves faster, the wireless links are more likely to be broken and more routing control messages are needed to repair the broken routes, which will impact the networks performance regarding to packets delivery rate, packets delay time, and routing control packets. Based on the fact that in real network different mobile nodes have different instant movement speed, this paper provides a novel routing metrics that takes nodes movement speed into account when selecting routing path in AODV routing protocol. With the novel routing metrics, the routing protocol will select the stable routes which have less wireless link breakages recently. The experiments show that the routing metrics can effectively reduce the packets delay time, increase the packets delivery rate, and reduce routing overhead in high mobility ad-hoc networks.
