A Wormhole Detection Mechanism based on Projection Pursuit in Ad Hoc networks
Ad Hoc networks are peer-to-peer, centerless and wireless networks with advantages of convenient installation, easy extension and economic savings Natural calamities and emergencies have little effect on Ad Hoc networks so that they are widely used, however, the attacks always accompany, such as the wormhole attack, DoS attack, the black hole attack|l|, the grey hole attack|2 and so on. Among these attacks, the wormhole attack is especially difficult to detect and destructive for the network, so the research on the attack behaviors and detection methods of the wormhole is beneficial to suppress the wormhole attack aggression and improve the performance of Ad Hoc networks. The wormhole detection mechanism based on projection pursuit which the paper provides can effectively overcome the limitations of current mechanisms and the projection results can directly assess the wormholes. The experiments carried in the Ad Hoc networks environment based on AODV prove that this method can obtain one-dimensional projection data with little loss but high accuracy of worm holes detection. This mechanism is proved to be suitable for wormhole detection and brings a brand new idea in this area.
