A CAN-based Modular Control System Design for Electric Wheelchair

Due to the defects of the traditional electric wheelchair(EW) control system that lack of openness,extensibility and intelligence,a new method based-on CAN(Controller Area Network) is presented to establish a systematized,modularized and open system control network platform for electric wheelchair (SCNPEW).Meanwhile,this paper describes the hardware architecture and software operation of the main modules for SCNPEW.An experiment is carried out on the sample wheelchair designed by ourselves.The results show that the platform has excellent performance of openness and extensibility.A favorable platform is provided to exploit advanced EW with intelligence and new function.
