A Wavelet Fusion Algorithm for Ship Monitoring By Using Spaceborne SAR Image and VTS Radar Image

Nowadays, the monitoring techniques used by national maritime regulatory authorities including VTS and AIS are limited by monitoring range, with the detection, investigation and analysis of all the ships being not available. With tbe development of satellite technology, a new monitoring technique called microwave remote sensing can be used to generate alltime, all-weather and distance ocean surface images, serving as a significant technical support for the ship monitoring on the sea. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), which is one of the microwave sensors developing very fast and being most effective, has been widely used in ocean remote sensing. This article, with the knowledge on multi-source image fusion, introduces Image Fusion Algorithm Based on Wavelet Transform, the information fusion of spaceborne SAR image and VTS radar image with wavelet fusion algorithm and several common methods of image fusion including componential analysis, HIS transform and Brovcy etc. The article also shows comparative analysis of infusion effect experiments. The results suggest that image fusion algorithm based on wavelet transform, which takes the features of wavelet transform and the visual characteristics of human into consideration, is able to enhance the spatial detail ability of images, making a very good infusion effect.
