IPv4 Addressing in IPv6 Network
Mobility of a mobile node can be achieved by using two IP addresses. The home address, used for identifying the TCP connection, is static and the care-of-address (CoA) changes each time the point of attachment changes. Therefore the CoA can be thought of as the mobile nodes topologically significant address. IPv4 and IPv6 will co-exist for a long time as it is impossible to switch the entire internet over to IPv6 overnight. That is why transition mechanisms have been devised to make the transition to IPv6 smoothly. This paper proposes a solution for IPv4 addressing in IPv6 network in perspective of integrated IPv4 and IPv6 networks, while not restricting an IPv4 configured node to roam only in IPv4 network hence makes it able to roam also into IPv6 configured network. In the proposed technique the mobile node uses IPv4 address of the V4 enabled IPv6 Gateway (V4/V6 Gateway) as the CoA. Using IPv4 address of the V4/V6 Gateway as the CoA for the mobile node (MN), helps the other routers in the internet to identify easily the current location of MN and to establish communication link between MN and CNs. The main focus of our proposal is to allow an IPv4 configured MN to roam also into IPv6 configured network and to get services in that different version of IP configured network.
